IMG_0029Today the U.S. Embassy hosted a round table discussion of security issues with representatives from across the state, entity, and cantonal governments. The event was held in support of a visit by Major General Gregory Lengyel, Commander of the United States Special Operations Command, Europe (SOCEUR). The round table began with a discussion of the contemporary security environment, and highlighted the increased need for cooperation in the fight against terrorism.  Also noted was the need for increased exchange of information between agencies contributing to the counter-terrorism mission, particularly as they work to stem the flow of foreign fighters to the conflicts in Syria and Iraq.

Lengyel congratulated Bosnia-Herzegovina on the successful prosecution of Foreign Fighter Facilitator Bilal Bosnic. He also expressed his sympathies for the families and colleagues of those officers that had been wounded or killed in the line of duty.  General Lengyel concluded the meeting by saying that he looked forward to finding ways that SOCEUR could further partner with the law enforcement agencies in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the fight against terrorism.
