The founder and owner of the Mango fashion brand, 71-year-old Isak Andic, tragically passed away during a hiking accident in Catalonia. The incident occurred yesterday near the Saltpetre Caves in Collbato, not far from Barcelona, while Andic was accompanied by his family. According to reports, he slipped on a hiking trail and fell into a ravine approximately 150 meters deep.
Catalan police received a report of the accident shortly before 1:00 p.m., prompting the deployment of mountain rescue teams and a helicopter to the scene.
Isak Andic was born in 1953 in Istanbul to a Sephardic Jewish family. In 1969, he moved to Barcelona, and in 1984, together with his brother Nahman, he founded Mango. The brand grew into a global fashion empire with over 2.700 stores in more than 110 countries.
The President of the Catalan Government, Salvador Illa, highlighted Andic’s significant contribution to the Catalan economy and fashion industry, extending his condolences to the family and the Mango team. The company’s CEO, Toni Ruiz, described Andic as an inspiring leader whose vision and dedication will be remembered.
Andic’s fortune was estimated at 4.5 billion euros, making him one of Spain’s wealthiest individuals.
