camp detaineesRepresentatives of the Association of Camp Detainees of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Association of Camp Detainees of the Sanski Most Municipality, which is a member of the former Association, marked yesterday  the 19th anniversary of the tragic deaths of camp detainees in Sasina.

They visited the location of their executions and once again reminded of the horrific crime which took place in 1995 when members of the Serb Volunteer Guard (Arkan’s Tigers) and the local Serb population tortured and killed 65 Bosniaks and Croats.

President of the BiH Association of Camp Detainees Jasmin Mešković reminded that the detainees were shot in a monstrous way and that they were killed just because they did not belong to a certain ethnical group.

The anniversary was marked with dignity. Flowers were laid and respect was paid at the memorial which was erected in the location where torture, rape and killing took place. After that, a visit to a Shaheed cemetery was made where the victims were laid to rest.

“I am glad that the marking was attended by representatives of two religious communities, the Islamic and Catholic one,” Mešković said.

He added that in this way they paid their respect to all murdered camp detainees and they sent a message that the victims which died from 1992 to 1995 will never be forgotten.

They asked BiH institutions to take all necessary measures to prevent such horrific crimes from happening ever again.

Nineteen years ago war criminals from Šehovci and war camp “Kotlovnica hotela Sanus” took a group of men and women. They presented the group on the plateau in front of the church in Sasina where they tortured and killed them. Only two persons survived this crime.
