The “Student Edict” protest in Niš entered its 14th hour, with tens of thousands of people still on the streets, and the rally is proceeding without incident.

On the streets leading to the central King Milan Square, there are many stands where people from Niš are handing out water, juices and food to protest participants. Students and citizens say that they are not tired and that they will stay at the protest until the end, a Beta agency reporter reported.

The protest in Niš was attended by a large number of citizens from all over Serbia, and during the afternoon, a column of motorcyclists – “biker blockers”, who had today’s special unofficial registration on their motorbikes: “NI – Pumpaj”.

The crowd also greeted military veterans who came to the protest in an organized manner with great applause. Among the protest participants today were the families of miners killed in the accident at the “Soko” mine in Sokobanja on April 1, 2022.

Their family members carried banners that read “Miners’ children have the right to justice”, “Miners gave their lives, families deserve justice”, “Methane instead of oxygen, let’s not forget the victims of the mines”. The organizers of the rally made sure that one lane on Voždova Street was passable for ambulances throughout the day.

Water tanks and a point where they could receive medical assistance were provided for the protest participants. The “Student Edict” was presented to the gathered citizens, which contains provisions on freedom, state, justice, youth, dignity, knowledge, solidarity and the future.

At 11:52 p.m., the protest participants will once again observe a fifteen-minute silence to pay tribute to those killed in the collapse of a canopy in Novi Sad, and the protest is planned to end at 3 a.m.
