Media: Ukraine agrees to Peace Agreement with Russia

Ukraine has agreed to a peace deal with Russia, with only minor details remaining to be agreed upon, CBS News reported on Tuesday, citing a US official, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Ukrainians have agreed to a peace deal. There are a few minor details that need to be worked out, but they have agreed to the deal, the official told the US media outlet.

The report came after the secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, said the delegations had “reached a common understanding on key points of the agreement discussed in Geneva.”

Meanwhile, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met with Russian officials in Abu Dhabi, two US officials and two diplomatic sources confirmed.

Driscoll spent hours in talks with Russian representatives on Tuesday, a US military official said.

Driscoll is in Abu Dhabi working on a revised version of the White House’s 28-point proposal for a peace deal following the Geneva talks.

“We remain very optimistic… Secretary Driscoll is optimistic. We hope to hear back from the Russians soon. The process is moving quickly,” the official said.

Representatives from the United States, Ukraine and Europe met in Geneva on Sunday to discuss ending the more than three-and-a-half-year-long war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said late Monday that the plan now had “fewer bullet points” and “many correct elements” after negotiations. He added that there was still work to be done to finalize the document.

The original draft reportedly called for Ukraine to hand over additional territory to Russia, limit the size of its military and give up its NATO membership.
