Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektic said that Imad al-Husin, who is also known as Abu Hamza, continues to represent threat to the national security, and he also explained the reasons for his detention, as well as for his release yesterday.
Minister of Security of BiH said that the European Human Rights Court in Strasbourg confirmed all the decisions and justification of the fact that he was declared as the person that represents a threat to national security, by the European Convention on Human Rights.
“They forbid us to deport him to Syria, because the country is in the war, and his life might be threatened. We were never able to return him to Syria and we have started the process of searching for a third country that would be safe for him.”
“We were in the process of seeking a safe country, until the second half of the last year, when the new Law on Aliens was adopted, which states that a foreigner cannot be detained for more than 18 months under measures of control,” said Mektic.
Mektic said that milder measures of supervision have been applied after their release, and that he has limited territory of movement, and that he has obligations to report to the police two or three times.
Mektic could not comment on the reason why Abu Hamza represents a threat to the national security due to the protection under the symbol “confidential”.
