Predsjednistvo i K.Ashton 4Members of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić and Bakir Izetbegović received today in Sarajevo the High EU Representative for Foreign Policy and Security and the Vice-President fo the European Commission Catherine Ashton.

Members of the BiH Presidency repeated their commitment to BiH to become a full EU member, and thanked Baroness Ashton for her efforts and dedication to our country.

The High EU Representative for Foreign Policy and Security expressed her satisfaction for her subsequent visit to Sarajevo and stressed the unquestioning unwillingness of the EU to lend BiH all help that is necessary.

“We believe that the future of BiH is in the EU, and that BiH will follow countries in the region on the road to the EU”, said Ashton.

According to her, the progress of BiH depends on BiH authorities, and reminded them of the obligations that BiH has to realize and keeping in focus the implementation of the “Sejdić-Finci” ruling and the harmonization of the BiH constitution with the European Convention on Human Rights.

She pointed out that the decision is in the hands of local politicians.

Members of the BiH Presidency expressed their dissatisfaction with the delay in the implementation of the ruling.

They exchanged opinions as to how to reach an agreement and it was pointed out that a compromise and an overcoming of narrow party interests would allow for a quick solution that would substantially eliminate discrimination and enable all BiH citizens to be chosen as a member of the BiH Presidency.
