Catalan media have announced the possibility that Lionel Messi could once again wear Barcelona’s jersey, at least temporarily.
Messi has a contract with Inter Miami until December 2025, and it is highly likely that he will extend it by at least one more year.
If Messi extends his contract, during his third season in MLS, a clause will be activated allowing United States (U.S.) clubs to loan players during periods when their season is not ongoing –from November to the end of February.
This means Messi could maintain his form at Barcelona to be ready for the 2026 World Cup.
“Previously, talk of Messi’s return to Barcelona was based on rumors without any real foundation. But now things could change, and the brilliant Argentine could once again wear Barcelona’s jersey,” the Catalan media writes.
In 16 senior seasons for Barcelona, the Argentine played 520 matches and scored 474 goals.
He holds the record with eight Ballon d’Or awards, the recognition for the world’s best footballer.
