Last season’s Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi can boast of another prestigious award in the world of sports, after he was chosen as Time’s Sportsman of the Year.

The New York publishing house ‘Time’ is known for its Person of the Year selection, and since 2019 they have decided to introduce the Athlete of the Year category as well.

During the first season, the award was won by the United States women’s soccer team. Awards followed for LeBron James, Simone Biles and Aaron Judge.

Now Lionel Messi has been decorated with the award.

The Argentinian, who in his career has three Golden Balls more than Cristiano Ronaldo, with this achievement managed to win another award that Ronaldo lacks.

Messi was honored after scoring 11 goals in 14 games for Inter Miami. The seasoned footballer gathered a number of celebrities at the presentation at Inter Miami, and after that he filled stadiums across the MLS league, wherever he appeared.

Interestingly, Messi’s arrival at Inter Miami brought 110,000 new members joining the club, Klix.ba reports.
