Michael Jordan’s sneaker collection sold for a record eight million dollars at auction at Sotheby’s in New York on Friday.
It is a record amount for worn sneakers ever sold at auction.
The lot, called the “Dynasty Collection”, consists of six sneakers worn by the basketball legend during the decisive games that enabled the Chicago Bulls to win six NBA championships in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997 and 1998.
Sixty years old Jordan holds another record, which is the most expensive game-worn sports memorabilia. His jersey worn in Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $10.1 million in September 2022.
While his sneakers are considered a cultural icon, Jordan’s net worth is estimated at $3 billion according to the Forbes Billionaires List, AA writes.
