The Sarajevo Film Festival is introducing Midnight Screenings, as part of its Special Screenings. This addition reflects the festival’s commitment to highlighting regional auteurs whose work challenges both form and narrative expectations. During the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, the programme will feature three titles: BRUCA BRACA BRUDA BRADA – ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, FROM NOTHING TO NOWHERE, and NO FAIRY DUST.
BRUCA BRACA BRUDA BRADA – ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE marks the feature-length debut of the Sarajevo-based collective Helem Nejse. Emerging from their widely followed animated series of the same name, which has cultivated a strong audience across social media platforms, the film offers a provocative vision of Sarajevo in 2045.
In a future where humanity has nearly conquered death, certain earthly concerns remain unresolved: in some parts of the world, the issue of parking persists. Against this backdrop, the most powerful politician of a Sarajevo municipality sets out to realize a controversial plan—to transform a historic local cemetery into a parking lot.
FROM NOTHING TO NOWHERE, the latest film by Ivan Perić, merges archival television footage, news reports, and real events with staged sequences, blurring the line between documentary and fiction. The film follows Dante, an Omiš-based semi-submarine rental operator, who discovers a camera left behind by a Czech tourist in his apartment and decides to use it to document the construction of the Split–Omiš expressway and the Omiš bypass.
His research soon leads him among a gallery of peculiar characters: the guru VicE, the English artist Frigsteen and his Mechanical Chicken. Vice has a theory that the traffic jams are purposely created to justify drilling a tunnel through the mountain to reach Tesla’s oscillator.
The cast includes Vice Tomasović, Ivan Perić, Josip Rogošić, and Marko Mandić.
NO FAIRY DUST, is the new film by Serbian director Maja Miloš, who made her debut 14 years ago with the multiple award-winning film Clip about teenagers struggling with sexual and social issues. In her new film, Miloš once again explores the theme of female sexuality.
The film centers on a young figure skater living on the outskirts of Belgrade with her father, a truck driver, following the death of her mother. As she struggles to support her family financially, she is drawn into a world where women are subject to sexual exploitation, intensifying the pressures surrounding her own repressed sexuality.
The cast features Jovana Stojiljković, Marko Grabež, Anđela Jovanović, Nataša Ninković, Ljubomir Bandović, Milica Tomašević, Nikolina Spasić, and Barbara Nola.
