Zvizdic SturgeonChairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Denis Zvizdic, met with the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, who is in a visit to our country.

Chairman Zvizdic thanked for the considerable support of the United Kingdom in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integrations of BiH. He said that it is evident that BiH is high on the list of priorities of the foreign policy of the UK and it is committed that BiH is on the agenda of priorities and the European Union.

Zvizdic thanked for the marking of the Srebrenica genocide organized by the British NGO “Remembering Srebrenica”. Minister Sturgeon said that this year was marked the Remembrance Day for the victims of Srebrenica in London and other cities around the UK for the 4th time in a row, and which was attended by many high officials.

Chairman Zvizdic informed the First Minister Sturgeon about the current situation in BiH and the curent state of realization of the objectives from the reform agenda. He stated that the coordination mechanism was finalized in the past week and that with the establishment of this body was fulfilled the final condition of BiH to receive a positive opinion from the EU and start the preparation of the questionnaire for BiH.

He expressed satisfaction that the European path cannot be stopped now.

During the meeting, the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, said that she is very glad that she visited BiH, where she received such a warm welcome.

“Although our two countries are geographically distant, I am pleasantly surprised by the warmth with which many people in BiH talk about Scotland. Scotland has long-standing relations with BiH, and during the past war, Scotland provided assistance and support to those who needed it. This meeting contributed to a better understanding of the progress that was achieved in BiH in recent years, as well as future priorities of the country. I would like to learn how we can use the memory on what happened in the 90’s in order to help the fight against intolerance and hatred anywhere in the world,” she said.

Chairman Zvizdic and Minister Sturgeon discussed the economic cooperation between the two countries and agreed that there is a room for improvement of cooperation in the future, as announced from the Council of Ministers of BiH.
