The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the University of Sarajevo – Law Faculty, Law Faculty of the University of East Sarajevo, the Association “Vaša Prava BiH” and the UNHCR Representation in Bosnia and Herzegovina signed in Sarajevo today a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of promoting refugee law and developing the necessary theoretical and practical capacities of future lawyers in the field of refugee law.
The Memorandum is concluded for a period until end of 2025, defining cooperation on the organization and management of the Refugee Law Clinic, support for the library of the Faculties of Law, and collaboration in the exchange of information on policies and practices in the field of refugee law and the asylum system in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
The Refugee Law Clinic shall enable students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of refugee law, with the possibility of gaining practical experience, as well as to receive information about the latest developments in the field of the international legal framework for refugee protection and on the relevant acquis of the European Union.
Students of the Refugee Law Clinic will have access to materials featuring international and European standards of refugee law, including the relevant legislation on international protection in BiH. This will ensure that the students have the opportunity tofamiliarize themselves with the legal framework for the protection of refugees in BiH, but also to gain valuable practical experience by learning first-hand about the work of the responsible authorities and civil society partners, and by visiting the reception center for asylum-seekers. During the Clinic, the students will have the possibility to gain practical knowledge with the Ministryof Security, the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees, the Association “Vaša prava BiH” and in the UNHCR office for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This activity is implemented with financial support from the European Union under the framework of the programme “EU regional support to protection-sensitive migration management systems in the Western Balkans”.
