Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah has once again posted a Christmas family photo this year.
Salah’s Christmas Day post featured his family gathered in front of a Christmas tree and a large gingerbread man, all appearing to be enjoying their time together.
Salah’s post with the caption “Merry Christmas” garnered more than 50,000 comments and over 500,000 likes in just 30 minutes.
However, many have attacked the Egyptian in the comments below the photo because Salah is muslim, writing that he committed a haram act.
“Who is forcing you to do this?”, “Delete this Mo!”, “This must be part of his contract…”, “For God’s sake, no. Post something about Palestine.”, “Bro, even gambling is more correct than this.”, are just some of the many negative comments.
The more critical responses to Salah’s post included comments such as, “At this point, I am just disappointed in you,” and, “Who is forcing you to do this?” On the other hand, a supportive post defended him, stating, “He’s raising his children to respect other cultures and traditions, creating special memories for them to cherish as adults—he’s an inspiration to all.”
This year’s message comes amid Salah’s ongoing contract stalemate with Liverpool. Fans are hopeful that agreements can soon be reached not only with the 32-year-old top scorer but also with captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are also set to expire at the end of the season.
