The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska (RS) announced that it has increased security measures in the territory of that entity, especially in public places, after today’s terrorist attack on the Embassy of Israel in Belgrade, during which a member of the Gendarmerie of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia was seriously injured.

“Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Srpska Siniša Karan and Director of the Police of the RS Siniša Kostrešević are in constant communication with the Minister of the Interior and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić and the first members of the Serbian Police and, although there is no immediate threat of a similar attack in the Republic of Srpska, a series of preventive measures and intensified cooperation with other police agencies in terms of the exchange of operational information,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska announced.

It is added that the state of security in the territory of Republika Srpska is satisfactory and citizens have no reason to worry, but they are urged to report any suspicious activity in their surroundings to the police.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, said that today’s wounding of members of the Gendarmerie is undoubtedly a terrorist act.

Dacic said that the attacker fired a crossbow at a member of the Gendarmerie who was on security duty at the Embassy of Israel around 11:00 a.m. and hit him in the neck.

Gendarmerie member Miloš Jevremović (1990) fired several shots at the attacker, whose death was confirmed half an hour later, and Jevremović is undergoing surgery.
