Most of the injured in the serious traffic accident on the A3 highway near Popovača are citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirmed the Croatian Minister of Health Irena Hrstić, stating that of the 31 injured people, 29 were hospitalized, while two people died.

“Most of the injured are citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, bus passengers. There are also minors among them,” Hrstić confirmed, adding that the injured will also be provided with psychological help, reports Hina.

According to her, out of a total of 29 hospitalized, five were placed in KB Dubrava, four in KBC Zagreb, two in the Traumatology Clinic of KBC Sestre milosrdnice, ten in Pakrac General Hospital and nine in Sisak General Hospital.

“Several people are undergoing operations, but so far no one’s life is in danger,” Minister Hrstić said at the press conference.

She added that two people were operated on in KB Dubrava, two in the trauma clinic, and one younger person in the hospital in Sisak.

The traffic accident happened around 3 am between Popovača and Križ on the A3 Bregana – Zagreb – Lipovac highway. A bus and a car, both with registration plates of Bosnia and Herzegovina, collided, the Sisak-Moslavina police reported earlier.

Ten emergency medical aid teams from several counties were immediately sent to the field to perform triage and emergency transport of the injured.

According to the doctor’s assessment, a third of the injured have serious physical injuries, and the rest are undergoing diagnostic processing. “Injuries that require surgery are mostly bone-joint in nature,” the minister added.

She expressed her condolences to the families of the victims and thanked all the emergency services for their quick and effective intervention.

“This case shows that the Croatian healthcare system can respond to such extraordinary situations in a timely and quality manner,” she concluded.
