Mostar is celebrating the 17th Anniversary of the Reconstruction of the Old Bridge

With the event called “It is possible to bridge the gap” (in Bosnian: ”Sve je premostivo”), Mostar will celebrate the 17th anniversary of the completion of the Old Bridge renovation and the 16th anniversary of its inscription on the UNESCO list of cultural heritage.

The grand opening of the event has been announced for June 21st and will last until mid-August.

The leaders of the largest city in Herzegovina expect that this year’s celebration of events that were inscribed in golden letters in the history of Mostar will gather many visitors from various parts of the world.

A detailed program of the celebratory event in this city on the Neretva, which will last two months, will be published on the official website of the City of Mostar.

In the years following the opening of the renovated Old Bridge and the inscription of Mostar on the UNESCO list, Mostar marked these dates with the opening of new reconstructed facilities.

This year’s event, as the organizers point out, aims to return Mostar to the world map of events and take the stage of the center of cultural and entertainment content for all generations without any boundaries and leave behind the difficulties it dealt with with the symbolic slogan “It is possible to bridge the gap”.

The Old Bridge in Mostar over the Neretva River is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that, when built, was the largest arch structure in the world. It was built in 1566 by Suleiman the Magnificent, and the builder was Mimar Hajrudin.

During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), it was demolished on November 9th, 1993, and rebuilt after the war and reopened to the public on July 23rd, 2004. A year later, the Old Bridge was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is known as the main symbol of Mostar and Herzegovina, Klix.ba writes.
