After the flag of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina was set on fire last night on the building of the Office for the Audit of Public Administration and Institutions of the Brčko District, the police made a statement.

As they stated, the incident was reported at 9:26 p.m. last night.

“It was reported that an unknown person set fire to the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the premises of the Office for the Audit of the Brčko District of BiH, located on Islahijet Street. Police officers went to the scene and took priority measures and actions to determine all the circumstances of the event, as well as to identify and find the perpetrator, given the nature of this event and the potential to threaten the sense of overall security in a community such as the Brčko District of BiH. An on-site investigation was also carried out and other investigative actions were taken under the supervision of the State Prosecutor of the Brčko District of BiH, in order to determine the existence of elements of a criminal offense,” they pointed out.

They further explained that this morning police officers identified two persons with the initials S.N. born in 2001 in Tuzla and her mother M.N. born in 1966.

“Both live in Brčko and are undoubtedly suspects in this incident. The above-mentioned persons were taken to the police premises, and after criminal processing, a request will be filed against them to initiate misdemeanor proceedings at the Basic Court of the Brčko District of BiH, which has been verified with the prosecutor on duty,” they stated.

They recalled that the above-mentioned girl S.N. wrote the graffiti “Ave Satanas” on the wall of the White Mosque in Brčko on January 6 this year.

“When it was determined that the motive for writing graffiti was related to the rejection of traditional religious beliefs and attitudes. For the aforementioned event, a request was sent to the Basic Court of the Brčko District of BiH to initiate misdemeanor proceedings against the aforementioned person. When it comes to the event of burning the flag at the building of the Brčko District Audit Office of BiH, the criminal investigation ruled out the existence of a motive to incite national, religious or other forms of hatred and intolerance, and the Police will send letters to other actors to take actions within their jurisdiction,” the police said.
