MP Magazinovic calls on the CoM to adopt a Decision on the Legalization of Cannabis for Medical Purposes

The member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Saša Magazinović, called on the Council of Ministers of BiH to adopt the proposed decision on the legal use of cannabis for medical purposes at its session on Monday.

“It is time to see who works for the people and who for the drug mafia. Years of struggle for the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes are behind us. At the same time, these are years of obstruction and slowing down of this process by those who turn their heads away from sick people and their need for medicine, those who do not distinguish between use and abuse, those who have an interest in cannabis oil of unknown composition continuing to be sold by dealers instead of being sold in pharmacies, or are simply under the influence of the drug mafia. The key moment is the vote of the Council of Ministers of BiH on the decision proposed by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH. Rarely does an ordinary person have such a clear responsibility to decide on the fate of tens of thousands of people and their families. Members of the Council of Ministers will have that power on Monday. They will decide on people’s lives and the availability of medicine,” said Magazinović, among other things, according to the Public Relations Department of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, which reported a statement from the SDP parliamentary group.

“Today, in our country, cocaine, opium, morphine and many others are legally used for medical purposes. The medical absurdity that cannabis cannot be used for medical purposes has lasted for too long, even though this is our international and legal obligation. When we talk about the use of cannabis for medical purposes, we should all understand that the medical profession is responsible for this and provides full support. It is time to let medicine do its job without politics getting in the way,” he also said.

According to Magazinović, for years, the interests of the drug mafia, or rather financial interests, have been intertwined on this topic, on the one hand, while on the other hand, the interests of people in need of medicine and the fulfillment of international and legal obligations. It is not in the interest of the drug mafia, dealers and their allies that cannabis oil is sold in pharmacies.

“I want to believe that they have no allies among the members of the Council of Ministers of BiH. With thanks to everyone who contributed to this fight, especially Minister Dubravka Bošnjak, who, despite obstructions, submitted the decision on the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes for the final decision of the Council of Ministers, I call on associations of patients, as well as the entire public and the media, to follow the outcome of the vote of the Council of Ministers, and especially the positions of each minister individually. At the moment when they vote, I call on the members of the Council of Ministers to think for just a moment about all those oncology patients, those suffering from multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and other diseases, whom their decision would help, but also about all those who did not live to see this decision made. The public interest is clear here. This is a matter of life, not politics,” said Saša Magazinović.
