MP Magazinovic: Time for a Serious Fight Against Recless Drivers

Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Saša Magazinović (SDP BiH), said that it is high time for a serious fight against reckless drivers.

He announced today that, after the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH failed to reach a decision on the procedure in the first round of voting, the members of the House Collegium, Speaker Marinko Čavara and Deputies Darko Babalj and Denis Zvizdić, agreed that at the next session the law that defines reckless driving and severely punishes reckless drivers will be considered in an urgent procedure.

“This means that a vote on the law will follow without interventions on the text,” said Magazinović.

He thanked the members of the Collegium who, as he stated, made an exception in the case of this law compared to the usual process of harmonization, where the final decision is most often left to the House of Representatives.

“By making this decision, Zvizdić, Babalj and Čavara have set an example for others, demonstrated their responsibility, accelerated the process of adopting the law, but also showed understanding of the importance of introducing repressive measures for those who endanger numerous lives with their reckless behavior on the roads,” said Magazinović.

He pointed out that every day we witness the tragic consequences of reckless driving. It is our duty, he added, to do everything we can to remove potential killers behind the wheel from the road.

“Severe financial penalties, confiscation of vehicles, punishment of those who refuse a drug test, the possibility of arrest and detention, preventive measures to increase the safety of road users… are just some of the measures in the law. It is high time for a serious fight against reckless drivers,” said Magazinović.

In a statement for Fena, he said that in our country, politics more often divides people and polarizes society than it unites. That is why, he added, in addition to the undeniably useful content of this law, it is very good that there are topics around which people in politics come together.

“In the case of a harsh legal response to reckless drivers, it is clear that there is broad public support, that the media is making a significant contribution to the adoption of a new law, but recently we have also seen that people from different parts of the political spectrum are coming together to fight for the safety of citizens and the adoption of a law that will be a new tool for the police to confront reckless drivers,” Magazinović pointed out.

At its last session on September 11, the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina considered the request of MPs Saša Magazinović and Jasmin Imamović to consider the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on the Basics of Road Traffic Safety in Bosnia and Herzegovina under an urgent procedure.

However, due to the lack of an entity majority during the vote, the request was then sent to the Collegium of the House for coordination, which reached agreement for its consideration under an urgent procedure.
