The Bihac mufti Hafiz Mehmed ef. Kudic and Dr. Franjo Juric, a prominent historian and researcher from Bihac, talked about his latest book “U trostrukom obrucu – Okrug Bihac u vojnim planovima i izvjestajima Srpske vojske Krajine 1994-1995 godine” (In a Triple Siege – The Bihac District in the Military Plans and Reports of the Serbian Army of Krajina 1994-1995). The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange opinions on questions of culture, religious freedoms, human rights, and the significance of joint life in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Mufti Kudic especially emphasized the value of Juric’s work, saying that it represents a precious testimony and a serious research work that opens a view into the dramatic circumstances in which the people of this region lived.

“It is especially significant that the work is based on original documents, because that additionally confirms credibility and provides future generations with support in understanding our past. I value his courage to, in scientific discourse, deal with topics that are painful, but necessary for the preservation of truth and the dignity of the victims. We also talked about numerous questions from the field of culture, politics, human rights, and the position of minorities in our country. Bihac, we agreed, represents a model that other environments should also follow in the life of people of different cultures, nations, and religions,” said Mufti Kudic.

Dr. Juric thanked the mufti for the reception and support for his work, emphasizing the motives for writing the book.

“I am grateful to the respected Mufti Mehmed ef. Kudic for the reception. We have repeatedly had sincere and fruitful conversations, and his word and deed spread good and love among the people of the whole of BiH. The book that I presented to him is the result of long-term research and efforts for archival documents to serve the truth and historical science. The siege and military plans against the Bihac District are key to understanding the war in BiH. My goal is not only to document events, but also to present the human dimension of those tragedies, to remind of the suffering and at the same time emphasize the strength of resistance and survival of the people of this region,” said Juric.
