The production of healthy food is a permanent feature of agricultural production worldwide, and to have the ideal conditions for the production of healthy and ecologically clean food. One of the products on the market with a growing demand is cheese.
Thus, the agricultural cooperative “Rama” has recognized these trends and is included in the realization of the project of building and equipping small dairy farms.
The cooperative stated that at the beginning of 2010 they completed the adaptation of a smaller production space and purchased equipment for the production of cheese from its business partners from the Netherlands. Afterwards, they began with the trial production of cheese that was at the beginning called ‘Ramski sir’, and slowly began to enter food shelves in Prozor-Rama and neighboring municipalities.
“The goal of the project was to develop production of cheese in order to ensure jobs for existing employees, and to support the development of a mini-network of dairy farms among the rural population. This is also a project that is in accordance with the development programs for dairy production in this municipality, which began at the beginning of 2009’’, said the Director of the Cooperative Nada Šakota.
In 2012, ‘Rama’ completed the adaptation of a new and more modern production facility.
“This structure of investment will create new employment, increase production and have perhaps a bigger effect in the indirect employment of a larger number of families from rural areas of the municipality’’, said Šakota.
The agricultural cooperative ‘Rama’ was established after World War II and the form of organizations and activities were adopted according to the standards at the time. Adjusting the General Law on Cooperatives regulates today’s form of organization, and the activity is regulated by the Statute and Cooperative rules. The cooperative has six employees, ten member-founders and a larger number of subcontractors.
