Municipality Šamac and Slavonian Šamac in Croatia Are Negotiating Joint Cross-Border Cooperation

poljoprivreda_140113Representatives of municipality Šamac in the RS and Slavonian Šamac in Croatia agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding for cross-border cooperation in the area of agriculture, environment, and water planning for the river Sava. The next meeting of representatives of the two municipalities is planned for approximately 10 days, and the signing of the memorandum is expected.

The Mayor of Slavonian Šamac Đuro Božić said that after signing of the memorandum there will be a joint project that they will apply to through IPA funds, as well as other funds.

Božić said that he does not know how the cross-border regime will be solved after Croatia enters the EU, but it is expected that cooperation will be feasible and successful.

They Deputy Mayor of Šamac Milan Nikolić said that in this municipality the wish is to improve agricultural production and increase employment, and that there are those who are interested to do joint projects with neighboring municipalities.

Nikolić said that representatives of municipality Šamac expressed an interest for cross-border cooperation, which was previously made official with municipalities Lovas and Tompojevci in Croatia.

A memorandum of understanding of cross-border cooperation was recently signed with these municipalities, and which is based on irrigation projects.
