The Muslim charity “Merhamet” has started distributing flour to the vulnerable population of Gaza. It is about 100 tons of this foodstuff, with a total value of 209,000 BAM, which was delivered to Gaza in five trucks.
According to the president of “Merhamet” Kenan Vrbanjec, the funds for the purchase of this contingent of flour were provided by “Merhamet” in cooperation with the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, while one truck, ie 20 tons of flour, was financed by three BH businessmen from Tešnj, Travnik and Mostar, who wished to remain anonymous.
Vrbanjac emphasized that, by the decision of the “Merhamet” Board of Directors, the campaign to collect aid for the population of Gaza, which originally lasted until January 16 of this year, was extended for another three months. So far, “Merhamet” has provided aid for the population of Gaza in the amount of more than 900,000 BAM.
Vrbanjac reminded that “Merhamet”, in cooperation with the Turkish partner organization IHH, has been helping the vulnerable in Gaza since the beginning of the hostilities.
“We started with intervention packages, and then with the daily preparation of meals for the population in the area, as well as for the sick and wounded in the local hospitals. The meals are prepared in the improvised kitchens of the IHH organization in the field. By the way, ‘Merhamet’ and IHH have in the past “For two years, we also organized the preparation of meals for the population of Gaza, so we have experience in that. This time, in accordance with the expressed needs, we decided to send flour to Gaza, and despite the unfavorable conditions on the ground, we succeeded,” said Vrbanjac.
He announced that “Merhamet” will continue to help the population of Gaza, which is threatened by Israeli military actions. The president of “Merhamet” thanked the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, companies, educational and other institutions that once again showed solidarity and empathy towards people in need.
