An unusual spiral of light was observed in the sky mainly above the European continent, and it was recorded by numerous citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as neighboring countries.
The blue light, shaped in a spiral, caused great interest of citizens this evening after it briefly appeared in the sky. Many people managed to photograph it, and the shots also arrived from Prijedor in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Discussions have taken place on social networks about what the light could be, and the most probable is considered to be frozen fuel from the Space X rocket.
Most of the reports and photos of this light appearing tonight are coming from the UK, with people joking that they thought a portal in the sky had opened and aliens were coming. The Croatian media, whose readers were also confused by the appearance, state that the spiral appeared in the sky above Croatia around 9:00 p.m. and that it was in the sky for a short time.
“The spot spread quickly and gradually grew. After it moved from one side of the sky to the other, the dot in the middle disappeared first, and then the ‘waves’ around it,” a reader from Karlovac told 24sata.hr.
This kind of spiral has appeared in the sky before, and after it confused the residents of Hawaii in January 2023, researchers assumed that this phenomenon was related to a military GPS satellite, which was launched from a SpaceX rocket in Florida.
Most often, it is a Falcon 9 rocket, which releases excess fuel in the upper layers of the atmosphere after the mission ends (usually during the deorbit of the second stage), and the fuel freezes into tiny ice crystals due to the low temperatures at that altitude. If it is illuminated by the Sun at that moment and observers on Earth are in the dark, these crystals reflect light and create a visible cloud that often takes on a spiral shape due to the rotation of the rocket during fuel release, Klix.ba writes.
