Strong Earthquake struck off the Coast of the New Zealand

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the coast of New Zealand’s South Island, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The epicenter of the quake was about 160 kilometers (100 miles) from Riverton, at a depth of 21 kilometers, the Adnkronos news agency reported.

The quake was felt by several thousand people, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Authorities have not issued a tsunami warning, but have warned residents to avoid beaches.
