Fahira Hasedžić, a BiH choreographer and designer with an English address, has been giving folk dance classes for two decades now, but she also makes national costumes for children who perform folk dance in that country.

After 20 years of voluntary work, she is still leading the groups “Bosnian Pearls” from Derby and “Youth of Bosnia” from Birmingham. Since the beginning of the millennium, her costumes can be seen in the museum in Nottingham and the premises of Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

“The credits go to BiH association in Derby and folk dance group ‘Bosnian Pearls’, which operates within the association,” said Hasedžić.

Numerous performances of these folk groups have contributed to her becoming recognizable for different choreographies and beautiful folk costumes.

“The cherry on top came when representatives of museum from Derby saw our exhibition in the premises of the Bosnian Center and asked from the leadership of the organization to move it to the premises of the museum. That exhibition consists of four folk costumes which I made purposefully for this permanent exhibition in the premises of the association,” Fahira explained.

Exhibition titled “Our Life, Our Transition” in the museum in Derby was officially opened in late October and it will be available to the public until mid-January, when it will be returned to the premises of the association.

This cooperation in the field of culture between the BiH association and “Derby Museum and Art Gallery” is an extraordinary example of how to integrate well, instead of assimilate, in the British society and how to subtly nourish the tradition and culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“This exhibition is the most beautiful present we could get for two decades of hard work and we can wish her good health and quick feet,” Fahira said in the end.
