NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will, during his visit to Sarajevo on Monday, meet with senior officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Rutte will, among others, meet with members of the Presidency of BiH, Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Borjana Kristo, Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konakovic, Minister of Defense Zukan Helez, and the acting Minister of Security.

He will also visit the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo (NHQSa) in Camp Butmir, where he will meet with the NHQSa Commander, the High Representative for BiH, and representatives of the European Union (EU).

The Secretary General will also meet with students of the University of Sarajevo (UNSA).

The visit of the NATO Secretary General comes at a time of political crisis in BiH, triggered after controversial laws were adopted in one of the two entities of BiH, the Republika Srpska (RS), banning the activities of the state police agency and judiciary on the territory of that entity.

Numerous countries have condemned this action led by the entity president Milorad Dodik, who was earlier sentenced in the first instance to one year in prison and a six-year ban from holding the office of RS president and other executive and legislative functions.

After Sarajevo, Rutte will travel to Pristina, where he will meet with the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, on March 11th. He will also visit the headquarters of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) forces.
