Nermin Catic: I hope One Day I can say ”Mom, we found Nino”

The mothers and wives of Srebrenica and Podrinje on the Square of Freedom in Tuzla reminded the domestic and international public of the genocide committed against Bosniaks in July 1995 by members of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of RS.

Three days ago it was the anniversary of the death of Hajra Catic, Srebrenica’s heroine, on whose initiative peaceful parades of Srebrenica mothers have traditionally been organized in Tuzla for decades. Nermin Catic arrived from distant Sweden for the anniversary of his mother’s death with his family.

”I came with my entire family for the anniversary of her death and then we took the opportunity to be here for the gathering she started so many years ago. I think she would be glad to know that I am here, to see us here, and that we somehow continue what she started and established. It’s hard for me to talk today, everything reminds me of her. We continue the search for my brother’s remains. I hope that I will live to find my brother and go to my mother and say: ‘Mom, here we are, we found Nino‘,”said Nermin Catic, during yesterday’s gathering on the Square of Freedom.

Hajra’s first colleague Nura Begovic from the ”Women of Srebrenica” Association points out that they will never stop seeking truth and justice.

”We are all hurt by what is happening around us. No one knows how much pain it is when at least one bone is found, many mothers are waiting for that day, but many do not see it. And then we have those around us who deny the genocide, who insult us. We will never stop looking for our loved ones, this is a message for all of them, and we will never stop spreading the truth about the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica,” Nura Begovic stated.

The peaceful protest on the Square of Freedom ended with reciting Al-Fatiha for all the victims of genocide and aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
