Today, in the presence of numerous fellow citizens, a ceremony was held at the Square of the IV Knights’ Brigade in Ilidža to take the ceremonial police oath of the 53rd generation of cadets who successfully completed their training for the rank of “Police Officer” at the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Thirteen women and 83 men will start work tomorrow in all organizational units of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo. On behalf of their generation, cadets Amina Šabanović Elkaz and Ahmed Pandžić addressed the attendees.
“We are looking forward to becoming part of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Canton of Sarajevo – the vigilant guardian of the capital of the homeland of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said cadet Pandžić, while cadet Šabanović Elkaz in her address especially thanked women in the police service.
“As a cadet of this generation, I extend special gratitude to all women who paved the way for us and showed by their example that the police uniform is equally dignified for all who are ready to serve honorably, responsibly and professionally,” she said.
Police Commissioner Fatmir Hajdarević, in his address to the cadets, emphasized the fact that the solemn police oath is not administered to any individual, but to the citizens of Sarajevo Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Your strongest and greatest shield, every day of your service, will be your independence and your fairness. There is no compromise here. It is certain that in your ministry you will meet those who think they are above the law because of their name, origin, money or position. At that moment, that independence and that fairness is more important than ever. Your greatest contribution to Bosnian society is to be a correct, honorable, responsible and independent police officer,” said Commissioner Hajdarević.
Minister of Internal Affairs Admir Katica pointed out the importance of strengthening all the capacities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton and the Police Directorate, with a special emphasis on improving the possibility of professional and specialist training of police officers at respectable police academies in the world.
“Everything we do – from capacitating the police to the best equipment – we do so that our citizens can sleep peacefully. Safety is not given as a gift, it is built with each new competition, each new exercise, each armored vehicle, body camera, uniform. And that’s why the police of Sarajevo Canton today more than ever watch over the peace of our citizens, strictly, justly and uncompromisingly. She is the wall that stands between them and any danger,” Minister Katica concluded.
The Chairman of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, Elvedin Okerić, congratulated the new police officers, expressing his belief that they will contribute to the safety of the citizens of Sarajevo Canton with their work, integrity and dedication.

After taking the ceremonial police oath, Chief Inspectors Salih Tufo and Dejan Barić, and Independent Inspector Amra Fukelj Mahmutović, performed the ceremonial awarding of the ranks of “police officer” to new police officers. In honor of taking the ceremonial police oath, today the Special Police Unit, the Police Intervention Unit, as well as police officers from all police departments were lined up at the Square of the IV Knights’ Brigade, according to the Cantonal Ministry of Internal Affairs.
