A young man from Sarajevo is only 24 years old and has already completed the study of medicine. Nino Fejzibegovic has only the state exam left to complete until he obtains the degree of a doctor, which he will take in Germany in October. He completed his studies in Germany, Sweden, and Japan, and has decided that he will do an internship in USA and Switzerland.

In addition to his expertise in medicine, Nino speaks five languages and is actively engaged in humanitarian work for the Red Cross in B&H. He was in South Africa earlier this year, where he had the chance to help the most severe patients, who had access to no medical care.

Nino said he always knew he would become a doctor. He began learning languages at an early age. He first learned German in primary school with his sister, which he studied through a student exchange. He eventually graduated from the Second Gymnasium in natural sciences.

“My mom told me I promised her to be a doctor when I was in first grade, and I succeeded. I went to competitions for physics, chemistry, and first aid. I have been in the Red Cross since age 14, and it all directed me towards medicine”, said Nino.

He was the best student (valedictorian) of the Second Gymnasium in his generation, and since he took classes of the German language, and performed the best, the DAAD branch of the German government offered him a scholarship for studying in Germany.

“I enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo because I did not know if I would manage to get that scholarship. However, after two weeks, they called me from DAAD and informed me that I passed, that I can choose any college, and that they will pay all costs for my studies. It was a great shock for me and my parents, who did not even know that I applied. In May 2009, I applied to the University of Heidelberg, and I got accepted”, said Nino about the beginning of the adventure that led him to the doctorate and large number of travels around the world.
