New City Government in Sarajevo from Monday

sarajevoThe constitutive season of the City Council will be held on Monday, the 6th of February.

This denied all speculation on the disposal of the constitution of the City Council and the election of the mayor because allegedly parties in the opposition were trying to reach consensus on the proposal of the joint candidate for mayor. Therefore, many opposition candidates for mayor are appearing in public for months.

“There will be no delay of the session on the 6th of February. I scheduled a session and I do not care about wishes of parties. On the agenda is the selection of the Chairman of the City Council and his two deputies. Then, the selection of the Mayor of Sarajevo and his two deputies,” said Suljo Agic, current Chairman of the City Council.

Each of the councilors can nominate a candidate for mayor but should take into account whether the proposed candidate has a serious support, because no one wants to appear as a candidate, and it turns out that there is no support.

The only candidate for mayor who has the support of the Coalition of SDA and SBB is Abdulah Skaka. He also got the support of the Presidency of the Democratic Action Party, after the support of the Cantonal Board of SDA.

For the deputy mayor, the SDA will propose Ivica Saric, an SDA member and the former Minister of Culture of Canton Sarajevo and the SBB will propose for the second deputy mayor Milan Trivic, journalist.

The SBB will propose Igor Gavric for the Chairman of the City Council.

These proposals will be on the season of the City Council. That does not mean that other candidates will not appear. The most important thing is to form a city council and chose the mayor because the city council and mayor four years ago were elected in April. The decision on the new city council and the mayor will bring the newly elected councilors, as confirmed by the Central Election Commission.

In the City Council from the municipality of Stari Grad were elected: Abdulah Skaka – Bosniak-SDA, Adnan Talic, the First independent list of Old Town – Croat, Almedin Miladin Bosniak – SDP, Dado Stojnic DF – Serb, Vedran Dodik, the Alliance for the Old Town – Croat, Vibor Handzic, others – NS and Srdjan Simonovic, Serb – SDA.

From the Municipality Center were elected: Samir Fazlic, Bosniak – NS, Velija Katica, others – SDA, Sead Srna, Bosniak – DF, Nihad Uk, others – NS, Nuko Grebovic, Croat – GS, Tea Drekovic, Croat – SBB, and Miro Lazovic, Serb – SDP.

From the Municipality Novo Sarajevo were elected: Hazim Bahtanovic, Bosniak – SDA, Srdjan Srdic, Serb – an independent counselor, Barbara Peles-Stroil, Croat – NS, Miroslav Zivanovic, Serb – the SDP, and Igor Gavric, Croat – SBB.

From the Novi Grad Municipality were elected: Edin Gabela, others – SDA, Lana Velic, others – DF, Sanela Fijuljanin, Bosniak – SBB, Enes Pestek, Bosniak – SDA, Bajro Biber, Bosniak – BOSS, Toni Vukadin, Croat – SDA and Mira Juric, Serb – USD.
