NSRS changed the Law on Holidays: The 9th of January is Secular Holiday from now on?

nsrsThe National Assembly of the RS (NSRS) changed the Law on Holidays with the parliamentary majority by adopting the proposal of the Government of the RS for the 9th of January to be celebrated as a secular holiday without any religious aspects.

The law was supported by 57 deputies, two were against, while three were abstained.

Special session was not attended by Bosnian and Croatian deputies of the Coalition “Domovina” (SDA, Party for BiH, HSP), because they believe that this is the continuation of unconstitutional and anti-Dayton activities of the entity parliament, which must be sanctioned by the international community, because the Constitutional Court of BiH declared the 9th of January, as the Day of RS, as unconstitutional.

Law on the Day of RS was also sharply criticized by the members of the opposition in the National Assembly, who claimed that the ruling party in the RS actually abolished the 9th of January as holiday of the RS, because its celebration is now “optional”, which the SNSD denied.

Law on the Day of RS has only four articles, which state that the 9th of January is the Day of the RS, and that it is marked and celebrated as a secular holiday.

“The Government of RS will regulate the manner of marking and celebration of the Day of RS,” as stated in the third article of this law.

Commission for implementation of the referendum held a referendum on the 9th of January as the Day of the RS on the 25th of September 2016, although the Constitutional Court of BiH banned it.
