600835_10151482952998403_1310672233_nAs part of the ceremony to mark World Environment Day, the OSCE Mission to BIH awarded recognition to five winners from the competition on environmental reporting in Sarajevo today.

The Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Fletcher M. Burton gave the awards to Elvir Padalović, editor of the online portal Buka, Sanela Habeš, Reporter from BH Radio 1, Bisera Džidić, Journalist from Fena, and Sanel Kajan, Journalist from Al Jazeera Balkans.

A special award for life contribution to reporting on the topic of environment was given to journalist Hajdar Arifagić. “As journalists that report on the environment, you work in order to inform citizens on important issues that affect their daily lives and you have a very important role in engaging citizens to protect the environment’’, said Burton. “Your task is challenging, as it not only involves research, but also to propose solutions. You are working as actors that educate and encourage dialogue among citizens in the effort to find solutions to environmental challenges’’.

Around 27 articles were sent for the competition. The expert jury in the area of media and environment chose the winners in the categories of online and print, and radio and TV reporting. The winners will participate in the economic and environmental forum of the OSCE in Prague in September 2013.
