More than 130 people were arrested in Paris over New Year’s Eve riots, French media reported, citing authorities.

BFMTV reported, citing the Paris prosecutor’s office, that 136 people were arrested in Paris on New Year’s Eve.

Paris police had earlier said they would deploy around 10,000 police officers in the Paris metropolitan area over the holiday.

A total of 100,000 police officers were deployed in France during the period, an increase from 90,000 last year due to fears of clashes and vandalism in the cities.

Several communes in France have imposed a curfew for minors from 10 p.m. on December 31. Firecrackers and fuel in shipping containers are banned from sale in a number of districts.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retaille has called on prefects and security officials to be very vigilant during New Year’s Eve celebrations due to the high level of terrorist threat, as well as rising international tensions.
