Twelve police agencies from Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Coordination Committee for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons destroyed 1,864 small arms and light weapons with their parts and components in the Jelsingrad foundry in Banja Luka.

In this way, they reaffirmed BiH’s commitment to contribute to the international framework for arms control, the security of its citizens, as well as regional and international security and stability.

Small arms and light weapons were collected by police agencies through regular law enforcement activities, while a certain amount of weapons was voluntarily handed over by citizens.

The goal of this is to increase general security and safety, as well as to combat the risk of the proliferation of small arms and light weapons by contributing to the reduction of the number of illegal weapons in BiH.

This activity contributes to the Strategy for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in BiH, but also to the realization of the Regional Roadmap for the control of the mentioned weapons.

Since 2017, the authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of the EU, UNDP BIH and UNDP SEESAC, have destroyed more than 18,500 small arms, light weapons with their parts and components. The event was funded by the European Union (EU) through UNDP SEESAC, with the support of the UNDP office in BiH.
