3,512,554 Croatian voters have the right to elect municipal and city councils, county councils and the Zagreb City Assembly on Sunday, May 18, which is about 147,000 less than in the local elections four years ago.

The decision of the Minister of Justice, Administration and Digital Transformation on Friday concluded the list of voters for the elections of local representative bodies and for municipal heads, mayors and prefects and their deputies.

3,512,554 voters were registered in the list of voters for the elections of members of councils and assemblies, of which 297 were citizens of other EU member states who have a residence or stay in Croatia. Namely, they have the right to elect and run for representative power, not for executive power.

A total of 3,512,257 were registered in the voter list for the elections for municipal heads, mayors and prefects and their deputies.

Compared to 2021, there are also fewer voters who will elect deputy municipal heads, mayors and prefects from among members of national minorities, i.e. the Croatian people.

93,495 voters were registered in the voter list for the election of deputy prefects, and 54,878 voters from the ranks of minorities, i.e. the Croatian people, for the elections of deputy heads of municipalities and mayors.

Four years ago, 123,967 voters were registered in the first census, and 59,857 in the second, which means that now there are 30,472 fewer voters in the first census, and almost five thousand in the second.

Members of national minorities, i.e. the Croatian people in units where members of a minority make up the majority, on election Sunday elect deputy municipal heads, mayors and prefects from their ranks, a total of 77 of them.

Croats will elect deputy mayors from among themselves in 12 municipalities where they are in the minority, Hina writes.
