pejic-marinkoThe Day of Remembrance for the victims of Vukovar is traditionally marked on the 18th of November in the Republic of Croatia, in honor of killed and missing persons who lost their lives in the war in 1991.

On the occasion of this important anniversary called “Vukovar – a place of special reverence,” the president of the Croatian National Council of BiH (HNV BiH), prof. dr. sc. Marinko Pejic, said:

“Croatian defenders and civilians that were killed in the aggression on Vukovar gave their lives, not only for Croatia but also for Europe, which unfortunately remained silent. It would be good for Europe and the world to learn from what happened in Vukovar and later in Srebrenica.”

We in Sarajevo have a special empathy with Vukovar, the heroic city, which has become a symbol of the suffering and creation of defense of Croatia. Croatian Economic Society of BiH, which operated in Sarajevo and within which is based HVO Sarajevo, participated in the organization of humanitarian aid for Dubrovnik, Vukovar and village Ravno in 1991.”
