The recent US strikes on the Houthi rebel group in Yemen are not an “endless offensive” or aimed at “regime change in the Middle East,” the Pentagon’s chief spokesman said today.
“We will use overwhelming lethal force until we achieve our objective. And this is a very important point, this is not an endless offensive. This is not about regime change in the Middle East, this is about protecting American interests,” Sean Parnell told a news conference.
According to him, the first wave of strikes hit more than 30 targets in different locations, reducing some of the Houthis’ capabilities.
The United States has launched airstrikes against the Houthis, killing at least 53 people. US President Donald Trump has warned that “all hell will break loose” if the group continues to attack ships in the Red Sea.
