This morning, there was a violent attack on a passenger car on the M-17 highway in the settlement of Potoci, north of Mostar, and the police are still on the ground investigating and securing the scene.

According to information from the Ministry of Interior of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, in the early hours of the morning, several masked men intercepted a Citroen C4 vehicle. The attackers used wooden clubs and torches, causing serious damage to the car. As stated, traces of torches were found in the vehicle, which further indicates the brutality of the attack.

“Around 7:30 a.m., we received a report about several unknown masked persons who attacked people inside the vehicle with wooden bats on the M-17 highway. Damage and traces of a torch were observed on the Citroen C4 vehicle. One person suffered serious injuries, while we are intensively searching for the perpetrators,” the HNK Ministry of Interior announced at a press conference.

During the attack, there was also a traffic accident involving two vehicles – a Citroen C4 and a Renault Clio passenger car. The driver of the Renault, A. P., born in 2001, suffered minor injuries, while the person with the initials E. O., born in 1990, suffered serious bodily injuries.

As for the motive of the attack, the police warned that it is too early to speculate until all official actions are completed. “We are intensively searching for the perpetrators, and any information from citizens is of great importance to us. This is the first case of this kind this year, while last year there were several similar attacks that were connected to fan groups,” stated the Ministry of Interior of the HNK.

The police call on anyone who has information or footage from the location to come forward, in order to identify and arrest the perpetrators of this violent act.
