Ponijeri Ski Resort attracts more and more Tourists

Ponijeri, the only ski resort in the Zenica-Doboj Canton, is attracting more and more tourists thanks to investments in slopes and ski lifts, as well as a new free of charge ski school for children. For further development, it is necessary to arrange accommodation facilities. Ponijeri, with its natural resources and sports fields, has great tourist potential.

A mountain resort at an altitude of about 1000 m – Ponijeri, also known as a natural air spa, attracts numerous visitors from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina every year thanks to affordable prices.

Since 2023, a modern, renovated ski lift has been operating at Ponijeri, which has significantly improved conditions for skiers.

And work is underway to improve the terrain for training young skiers, and this year the services will be free of charge.

DŽENAN AJDINOVIĆ, Director of the Cultural and Sports Center of the Kakanj Public Institution

“It is often colloquially called the national ski resort. Extremely favorable prices that will remain the same this year, as in the previous ones. This year, we will especially focus on that part, so that our young skiers, of whom there are more and more every year, can get better conditions. We already have competent coaches.”

Today, there are about seven hundred weekend houses in Ponijeri, but only a small number of owners offer their facilities for accommodation. In order to obtain a clear record of capacity, the Municipality of Kakanj and the Tourist Board are establishing an official register of renters. The residence tax is two marks, and it is enough that the facility is legal and owned by the person renting it.

EDIN BJELOPOLJAK, Director of the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Kakanj

“Let’s create a set of incentive measures for registering this type of activity, not everyone rents in Ponijeri.”

BENJAMINA ŠARANOVIĆ, Head of the Tourism Development Department of the ZDK

“They pay a flat rate of 50 marks per bed per year. So, if you have 4 beds that you rent out, you pay 500 marks per year and you no longer have any obligations regarding the tourist tax.”

MIRNES BAJTAREVIĆ, Mayor of the Municipality of Kakanj

“Our goal is to legalize all these facilities, especially those that are not legalized, and to finally put them into the system of organized rental, or rather, the collection of the tourist tax, thanks to the established tourist association.”

The Ponijeri offer everything you need for a pleasant stay – well-maintained infrastructure, quality trails and constant investments that make this mountainous area more attractive and visited every year.
