The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, appeared in public on Sunday for the first time since being discharged from the hospital two weeks ago after treatment for bilateral pneumonia.
The Pope appeared in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican in a wheelchair to greet the faithful.
After being treated for life-threatening bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli hospital for five weeks, the 88-year-old Pope appeared at a mass for the sick and healthcare workers on Sunday.
“Good Sunday to everyone,“ said Pope Francis.
During the traditional mass, he offered a prayer for doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers whose mission is not easy and must be supported and respected.
