United States Agency for International Development (USAID) administrator Samantha Power arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Wednesday night.
Power had her first meeting with the media in Bascarsija, in the street in front of the Bascarsija mosque.
“The experience I gained in BiH changed my life. And the experience influenced my career working to promote peace. BiH and Sarajevo are at a serious crossroads. I come from a meeting with prisoners of war, and the meeting was very emotional. These are people who have suffered in captivity. BiH and its citizens must never go backward,” Power pointed out.
Further, she added that politics is complicated, but also that the war is terrible.
“This morning I had a meeting with investigative journalists, who risked their lives to point out corruption. I will also talk to young people, I want to hear their opinion. I will have a meeting with entrepreneurs, so that young people do not leave and do not think of leaving,” Power told yesterday.
She also announced today‘s meeting with three members of thePresidency of BiH. She emphasized that during her stay in BiH, she would convey the message of U.S. President Biden that “the U.S. stands with the citizens of BiH”.
“I expect an honest dialogue with them. We will talk about reforms needed to benefit all citizens of this country. I convey President Biden’s message that the U.S. is with the citizens of BiH. Lighting a fire is very dangerous. It will be my pleasure to talk to all journalists after a meeting with BiH Presidency members. The threat of stability and the announcement of withdrawal from the institutions have no economic or functional sense,” Power explained.
