Professor Armin Krzalic commented on whether BiH is a Ground for Terrorists

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has been facing numerous security challenges for some time. The professor of the Faculty of Criminal Justice, Criminology and Security Studies atUniversity of Sarajevo – UNSA, Armin Krzalic, talked about how and in what way to deal with this problem.

At the very beginning, he said that he was observing all these events and how worrying the situation was.

Among other things, whether the past events were a warning that young people need help.

Fear of the public

“Especially what causes fear among the public is the way the acts are carried out. Most of these crimes are committed by young people. Especially between the ages of 14 and 18. It is becoming a global problem. A process that is a product of globalization. All those factors that contributed to the development of globalization have a negative impact on social events,” said Krzalic.

When asked how much our country is actually a suitable ground for terrorists if we compare it with the countries of the regions, but also with some European Union (EU) countries, the professor told:

“This has been advocated since 2012. I visited all the places that the media or officials had identified as possible terrorist camps. And we didn’t find a camp anywhere. I expected to find polygons. We visited all the places that are characterized. We were with individuals who express their religious beliefs in a different way. They are not even closed religious communities. The group was used for certain tensions”, said Krzalic.

In the previous days, the public in BiH dealt with information from the Moldovan police, which states that more than a hundred young people are under investigation, and that some have been arrested. They allegedly received training for riots in Russia and Serbia and BiH. The authorities vehemently deny these allegations.

“The word camp is taken wrongly. We didn’t find a camp anywhere. If you say camp, then you must know what it means. There are no terrorist camps in BiH, maybe there are individuals. It exists everywhere. Reports indicate that.

BiH has progressed, it is less susceptible to these things. Some do not know what safety culture is, and they give qualifications. Let the institutions do their job, but the public must be informed more responsibly”, said Krzalic, and then clarified his position on the daily reports of bombs in Sarajevo:

“I have no doubts about the area of the police apparatus. The security apparatus must change work processes with new threats. With this approach, we are exhausting police capacities. We need to change our approach to work. It is not necessary to carry out a detailed search, detailed checks for every report. Rather, assess whether classes should continue. Apparently, everyone is afraid to take responsibility. We cannot perform constant controls. We need to react, BUT with a different approach”, N1 writes.
