The Sarajevo Vijećnica was the focus of all important political and cultural events in Sarajevo and B&H for more than a century, announced Studio Urbing.
It is witness to several changes in state systems, the Sarajevo assassination, terrible ordeal of two world wars, rise of a single city during the XIV Winter Olympic Games in 1984, and finally as the National Library it was exposed to barbaric attack and destruction and became the modern metaphor for urbicide and culturecide. It is a little known fact that during the entire turbulent existence of Vijećnica, not one book has been written about this national treasure.
This year, Vijećnica will reopen its doors in its authentic luxurious edition, and a group of authors who are closely related to the reconstruction of Vijećnica wrote a book about the building, which will soon be published.
In addition to an overview of the historical context, the display of construction, destruction and reconstruction, the book will include the presentation of this building through precise factual footage, glossary and chronology.
