Thousands of Greek citizens took to the streets on Wednesday in a 24-hour strike to protest the high cost of living, which has hit pensioners and working people particularly hard.
Employees in the private and public sectors and pensioners said that the increase in salaries and pensions is still inadequate to solve the problem of the decline in purchasing power during the general strike.
The strike was organized by the Confederation of Greek Employees (GSEE) with the support of other unions and left-wing political parties.
Demonstrators demanded that the government increase pensions, the minimum wage and do more to address the rising costs of basic food and rent.
