FreePress1The BiH Youth Press Association and the Press Council in BiH will organize tomorrow, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day a public campaign called “Citizens and Journalists Together in the Fight For The Truth”.

The campaign will be organized on the streets of 25 cities in BiH. The goal is to inform the public on the (lack of) freedom of expression and the responsibility of journalists, the rights of citizens and timely information and the rights of citizens to complain on inaccurate and unprofessional media reporting.

Citizens will be given a code Codex for print and online media, complaints procedure of the Press Council of IBh and the magazine “Karike”, which is being realized by young journalists form the Youth Press Association.

There is growing pressure on free media coverage, a large number of journalists work for low wages or without a contract, and there are more frequent attacks on journalists and journalists have even been killed. In the last 10 years, more than 1.000 journalists throughout the world have been killed.

Citizens have to be aware that any pressure on journalists and suppression of freedom of information is an attack on democratic development of society and the development of civil rights and liberties. One of the fundamental rights of citizens is the right to truthful and timely information.

Also, it is the democratic rights of citizens to complain when they recognize false media reporting.

Through survey research, it will become known how much citizens are informed of their rights and how they are satisfied with media reporting.
