FIFA made revolutionary changes when it comes to the U17 World Championship, and the news about Qatar’s decision to organize as many as five consecutive competitions attracted the most attention.
The U17 World Cup has been held every two years since 1985, and FIFA has decided that from 2025 the tournament will be held every year.
The number of participants will be increased from 24 to 48 national teams, and Qatar will host the next five championships, from 2025 to 2029.
“We are following a global call for expressions of interest to host the competition, with a focus on using the existing football infrastructure in the interests of the efficiency and sustainability of the tournament,” reads FIFA’s explanation for this decision.
Recall that Qatar hosted the World Cup in 2022, and at the beginning of this year it hosted the Asian Cup.
The defending U17 world champion is Germany, which won the tournament in Indonesia at the end of last year, Klix.ba reports.
