Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that Israel was punished by the attack carried out by the Revolutionary Guards for the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

Raisi’s statement about his country’s attack on Israel was published in Iran’s official IRNA agency.

The Iranian president said that the operation against Israel was carried out as part of “legitimate defense” against the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria.

Raisi said that they will respond more firmly to any attempt against their country.

Revolutionary Guards army commander Hussein Salami also said they would “target Israel if it targets Iranian interests and elements.”

Iran launched an airstrike against Israel late Saturday in retaliation for an April 1 airstrike on an Iranian diplomatic facility in Damascus, Syria.

At least seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including two generals, were killed in that attack.
