The new building of Gazi Husrev-bey’s library has been enriched with one more cultural content, which decorates and fulfills its centuries-long tradition, and it is the Museum with the permanent setting of beautiful and very rare artifacts that represent cultural inheritance of our peoples.

Curator of the museum Meho Manjgo noted that the setting is divided into eight thematic units according to the type of items, their purpose and the way of their use, and they are following: Islamic calligraphy, the library during the war, time measuring, Islamic scientists (ulema), mosque and tekke, everyday life, artistic metal processing, and in the foyer of the Museum is valuable collection of works in stone – lapidary.

Tour of the Museum starts with lapidary with several inscriptions that are several centuries old, and most of the attention is taken by tombstone of Turhan Emin-bey, who is, according to popular belief, considered as the founder of the eldest mosque in BiH, the one in Ustikolina.

In the Museum are exhibited calligraphic compositions of BH calligraphists, and Manjgo emphasized that the eldest works belong to Ahmed Seid Vilic (the first half of 19th century). They are followed by four diplomas for calligraphy that belonged to hajji hafiz Rakim ef. Islamovic (1839 – 1895), one of the last Bosnian teachers of calligraphy, which were awarded in Istanbul.

Moreover, there are two calligraphy works of Mehmed-beg Kapetanovic Ljubusak (1839 – 1902) the Mayor of Sarajevo, writer, and cultural scholar. At the end are four, very successful, but unsigned calligraphy works.

Furthermore, a special part of a new exhibition entitled “Library during the war 1992 – 1995” has been set in the honor of unselfishness of employees of the library who were saving cultural treasure of BiH during the war. A movie was produced by Oxford Film and Television Production and visitors have the opportunity to watch it.

Especially interesting part of the setting for foreign visitors, tourists and researchers is “Everyday life”, in which is presented the life of Muslims in BiH during five centuries, where, besides male and female traditional clothing, are also exhibited other artifacts that were used on a regular basis.
